Jerez City Council dedicates the 2021 Grape Harvest Festival to Doña Pilar

The traditional Pisa de la Uva ceremony with which the Grape Harvest Festival begins each year has had this year 2021 a unique dedication to the person of our winery Pilar Plá Pechovierto, who died on March 8, 2020.

The poet Pepa Parra, master of ceremonies of the emblematic act with which this wine festival begins, has glossed over the figure of Doña Pilar, “the great lady of Sherry”, as a “pioneer, enterprising” woman who knew how to grow her winery taking care of the traditional processes after the death of her husband, in 1976, promoting a process of modernization and bottling under her own brand without losing her own identity, which made her a benchmark in a long and award-winning career. María del Carmen Borrego Plá, daughter of Doña Pilar and current owner, who has had the opportunity to collect recognition for her mother from the mayor, Mamen Sánchez, and the president of the Regulatory Council, César Saldaña, has reminded her mother of through the words dedicated by other people: feminist without fuss, strength and legacy. “She was a woman whose work was always marked by naturalness, without fanfare and with great coherence. Always in search of quality and excellence.”
